Artist Statements

I've long thought that artist statements can make or break a piece. So many times a piece of art can be made much more interesting by knowing more about it. Today's 20x200 piece is an example of the opposite of that.

  1. Really? That got selected for 20x200? It has GOT to be because it's a picture from the set of "Where the Wild Things Are" because as art, it's not a very interesting piece. I looked at it and instantly knew what it was and the context of the picture - I don't see much in the image that draws me to look further into it or think more reflectively. Bah.

  2. Oh, that's so funny. I had the exact opposite reaction. I never saw the movie so I didn't recognize the context without reading the text. I think the image itself tells an interesting story, but when I realized it was a behind the scenes shot, I decided it was lame.
